Stephen Popper, Secretary

  • Current Affiliation: Senior Research Scientist, School of Medicine, Stanford University
  • Education: ScD, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Harvard School of Public Health; BA, Biology, Swarthmore College
  • Experience: Virology, epidemiology, genomics, and development of molecular diagnostics. Stephen has done work on HIV-2 pathogenesis in Senegal and leishmaniasis in Brazil. His current work involves exploring ways of applying genomics and DNA microarrays to the problem of diagnosing and managing infectious diseases.

Stephen is particularly interested in finding ways to strengthen the communication and interactions among researchers from developing countries, and believes strongly in the importance of SSI’s multi-faceted approach to providing support, training, and access to global scientific resources.
