Our programs are designed to provide researchers in the developing world with the skills and tools they need to make a difference in the public health of their communities. We build infrastructure that relies on well-trained human resources to improve the quality of local infectious disease diagnosis and research. We work with countries with little or no scientific tradition or resources and have program activities in Latin America and Africa.
We Create Sustainable Programs with Local Partners
We work with local partners, emphasizing the training of trainers concept and monitor results to ensure that today’s progress is here tomorrow.
We Strengthen Ethical Leadership and Management
SSI encourages new generations of leadership, promotes ethics in the management of scientific projects and the implementation of effective methods of research. Our program has been exemplified by the World Health Organization as “Best Practice” to Scientific Training
We Work with Governments to Develop Scientific and Health Research Human Resources
The lack of trained professionals continues to expand the gap in the scientific endeavor of developing countries. SSI offers a different approach to create an optimal environment and foster scientific creativity, motivation and empowerment of local research groups.
We Support Laboratory Systems
SSI helps create laboratories implemented with the most appropriate technologies for the local conditions. SSI promotes local autonomy in science, and advises the use of more sustainable products to optimize existing resources.
We Approach Science with Innovative Strategies
Some of the ways in which SSI promotes perspectives to achieve significant scientific progress include:
- appropriate technologies
- use of alternative in-house reagents
- local engineering
- empowerment of local resources
