Eva has always felt the need to take science out of the ivory tower and apply it to real life problems. Since 1988, she has spearheaded efforts to affect the sustainable transfer of biotechnology to developing countries, focusing on Latin America. This work earned her the MacArthur Fellowship in 1997, a national recognition award from the Ministry of Health in Nicaragua in 2002, and selection as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2002.
